![]() ![]() The solution is never to row harder or hope it gets better. These scenarios I've seen over and over, working with entrepreneurs with co-founders. ![]() Everyone suffers including employees and customers. Meanwhile, more time goes by without scaling. The non-rower (with less skin in the game) is okay with whatever happens. Communication falls off, a meeting or two is skipped and next thing you know there is no communication. One person is working late-nights and weekends while the other is only producing excuses. Over time the contribution becomes less and less. The Non-Rower: In the beginning, all co-founders are in the same boat, rowing in the same direction. The founder is always chasing the dream and the result is wasted time and frustration. However, when the big deals never materialize, its always next month or next quarter or as soon as the new feature is available. At first, the promises seem real, meetings are scheduled, maybe even a demo given. However, the big company had a big marketing budget, experienced sales team and their own agenda. He was part of a big company and helped them grow bigger. On paper, the new partner's resume looks legit. He was promised access to large accounts, rapid growth or cash. This co-founder created the product and took on a co-founder because he had the industry connections and automotive experience. Living on Promises: This scenario is the exact opposite of the co-founder who is playing catch alone. Playing catch alone has one predictable outcome, exhaustion. The other co-founder is the "tech-guy" and because he developed the platform he stays busy making enhancements. Initially, it works, but eventually growth stalls because this person can't duplicate himself. He's relied on to close all major deals, also save key accounts and he's tasked with driving revenue. The co-founder who is the main salesperson for his company finds himself in this position. Playing Catch Alone: Have you ever tried to play catch by yourself? Not fun. Unfortunately, these scenarios are so common I've given each a name, they are: Each scenario was a little different, but the underlining frustration was the same, wasted time and lack of sales. One common theme was the other co-founder or equity party, who was not pulling their weight. Eight auxiliary locker rooms will be available for campus and community use of the facility. This week I spoke with three separate co-founders of automotive SaaS start-ups, each in different stages of company development. The weight room within the building will be available for use by all Fighting Irish varsity athletes. The facility includes two sheets of ice (one of them Olympic-sized), with limited seating availability for the second sheet. Offices, locker room, and training facilities for the Notre Dame hockey program will be located within the facility. The majority of the general public arena seating is of the chair-back variety. The new ice arena is located south of the Joyce Center, just north of Edison Road, and just west of where the new Irish track and field facility is being constructed. ![]() It is named in honor of former San Jose Sharks part-owners Kevin and Gayla Compton, whose gift led funding for the project. The ice arena replaced the 2,857-seat rink in the north dome of the Edmund P. The arena saw its first game on October 21, 2011. The Compton Family Ice Arena is a 5,022-seat, two-rink ice facility in Notre Dame, Indiana on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. ![]()
